As promised, here are my sketches! I am annoyed it took me so long to decide on an image and meaning of some sort, but after endless hours of searching through pictures and memories, I had a couple more strong options but I kept going back to this one.

I have early memories of staring at this photo as a young girl and wanting to analyze every single gesture from everybody in the picture, even though there is not much going on in the picture, just my mom asking my sister to stay still so they can take a picture of us. But the fact that is dark out in the picture and my face is being covered by my mom’s hand trying to help my sister, while having a weird facial expression, idk it just gives it a weird vibe lol.

I still haven’t decided what is going around the vase but I like the idea of this net-like pattern and what it may mean. I landed on that pattern while wanting to incorporate textures or shapes that I see on the original image, what caught my attention was the waves or ripples that are around the top edges of the image. It comes from me taking a picture of the photo while it is behind plastic in a photo album. 
I could also make some type of tiles since it is the most predominant shape/texture in the original image… but i don’t know how to incorporate it just yet…

Some tentative patterns, I am not sure what I like the most yet, but hopefully by the time I am done building the vase, I have a clear idea.
